The Mezzotint System
Mezzotint is a tonal printmaking process developed in the seventeenth century and known for deep blacks, smooth gradations and rich, velvety texture.
Pulp & Thunder translates that tonal approach into 10 calibrated levels running from 10% to 100% density. Use the lighter levels for subtle grain and early buildup, the middle range for controlled gradients and the heavier levels for dense shadows and dramatic printed depth.
Unlike soft airbrush shading, the surface remains visible as the value increases. The artwork gets darker without losing its grain, breakup or pulp character.
The system is brush-based in Procreate, Photoshop and Affinity. The Illustrator edition supplies the same tonal range as a 10-level mezzotint swatch system.

Built for Dry Texture & Heavy Print Energy
Pulp & Thunder is built for artwork that needs texture at every stage, not just as an overlay at the end.
Start with blunt pencil, charcoal or crayon. Bring in the rough liners when the drawing needs more weight. Build shadows through the calibrated mezzotint levels, then pull the piece together with scanned pulp paper and a palette that feels at home in print.
The marks stay dry, broken and visible. The shading stays deliberate. The paper gives everything somewhere convincing to sit.
Use it for battered comics, screen-printed posters, record sleeves, paperback covers, editorial work and any image that feels better with a little dust in the machinery.
Rough marks. Deliberate tone. Print character all the way through.

Customer Reviews
Paper textures is probably the thing I care about most in these bundles, and Pulp and Thunder has some great ones especially in the warm white range which is what I prefer most. I think the shading engine is also quite nice which typical you have to buy in a separate packs, making this a very good value.
You wanna know how good digital brushes can get? This is it. I’ve tried lots of other company’s sets and the second I loaded up GARM’s sample brushes I immediately could tell these were different. Pulp and Thunder did not disappoint. The way these brushes bite back is serious; after years of using procreate, I finally felt like I was using analog tools. I’ve since picked up more sets and each one is a winner. GARM RULES.
These textures are amazing I absolutely love making tijuana bibles with them its fantastic
Excellent brushes for pro level use
I really enjoy the pack. It helps me pick colors and the brushes are top quality. I would buy all the brushes if I could.
